Who Should Enroll?This course has been developed for all healthcare workers who are involved in the assessment, treatment and ongoing management of wounds.
Course DesignThis course is a classroom course and participants will receive a comprehensive and user-friendly study guide developed by experts in the field covering all the modules. The course is offered using participatory methods and building on shared knowledge with the participants.
Course ContentAfter completion of the course the participant will be able to:
- identify the different structures of the skin and understand the physiology of wound healing
differentiate between the different categories of wounds
holistically asses a patient and their wound/wounds
develop an individualized treatment plan utilizing international assessment tool
differentiate between the different wound care product categories and types available in South Africa
perform wound care procedures in line with infection control best practice
apply best practice principles to all different categories of wounds
adapt their practice in a low resource setting with best practice principles
document and monitor treatment, identify problems, manage and refer as required to the multi-disciplinary team
CertificationTo qualify for the certificate of completion for this short course, participants should fully attend the workshop and successfully complete the assessment process. The course is accredited for 30 CPD points (HPCSA)
